Stained and Discolored Teeth

Staining can appear on teeth due to problems within a tooth (intrinsic), or on the tooth’s surface (extrinsic).

Staining may occur due to the following:

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Root canal treated therapy
  • Diet/Consumption of pigmented foods (coffee/tea)
  • Hereditary
  • Certain medications

Treatment:

Extrinsic: Staining on the outer layer due to contact with food that we consume is superficial and easier to remove. At Beyond Infinity Dental we offer options for stain removal treatment and whitening treatments for brighter smiles.

Intrinsic: Stains below the surface of your teeth can be quite difficult to remove. Masking of discolouration with resin fillings or Crowns/Veneers, are usually required to treat these stains.

If left untreated:

If left untreated, brown spots on teeth may occur. These spots can be a symptom of tooth decay which can be prevented with regular 6-month general checkup and clean. If your teeth makes you feel self-conscious, teeth whitening may be a way to address this issue and help boost your confidence.
